Reading through the references, I couldn’t help but draw parallels between tagging in online information systems with design research analysis. Most of the design research methods we use are based on tagging as their framework. For example, when we do Affinity diagramming, we are actually tagging with in our brains, identifying similarities and dissimilarities and connecting the dots to develop interesting design points. It also made me think of the research analysis I am doing with a professor. Collecting data from interviews and adding, “tags” to information. The analysis later includes analyzing these tags in details, like their frequency of occurrence (similar to tag clouds), connections, and relationships.
Today tagging is not only used for search and organization systems, but it has also become prevalent for advertising campaigns (example hash tags in Twitter and Facebook”). In some ways we remember people’s names with “tags” in our brains.
