Metadata types

In Wodtke and Govella book, it was mentioned that there are three types of metadata that are used nowadays: intrinsic which the metadata is about the thing’s composition; administrative which the metadata is about the way the thing will be handled; and descriptive which the metadata is about the nature of the thing.

In this week’s warmup question, I had defined electronic books as the collection of objects and specified the following attributes for it: Title, author, illustrator, pages, format, publisher, edition, publication date, language, ISBN number and size.

Now, in the following table, I would like to classify the attributes that I came up with in terms of they are intrinsic, administrative or descriptive.

Attribute Metadata type
Title of the book Descriptive
Author(s) Administrative
Illustrator Administrative
Pages Intrinsic
Format Intrinsic
Publisher Administrative
Publication date Administrative
Language Intrinsic
The ISBN number Administrative
Size Intrinsic
