Representation and ourselves

Fascination topic this week – though full disclosure, my master’s thesis has to do with this topic a bit: I’m currently working on a project that has to do with people’s names, their identities, how they represent themselves in certain contexts, and how others respond to that.

It’s an odd concept that our names, something we take for granted and which are wrapped up intimately with ourselves are… in many ways just a representation for someone else to use. A little outside my topic, but we do this alll the time with products, companies. Names convey meaning, emotion, physicality, and all of these are different based on our past experiences.

Here’s a fascinating article (actually Clark Mullen showed me this. Thanks Clark!) about how products and company’s names are decided.
